You may remember around this time last year we asked you to join "Team Friedo" as we rappelled down the side of 620 Newport Center Drive, The Irvine Company Building to support Shatterproof, a national organization dedicated to ending the devastation that addiction causes families. It was an outstanding day and "Team Friedo" raised $48,060 in donations for Shatterproof and their team!
Shatterproof has accomplished a multitude of items this past year. One of the biggest accomplishments of the year that directly affected California was SB482 signed into law, this legislation requires all prescribers to check the state run prescription database before prescribing opioid painkillers, sedatives or any other schedule II, III or IV drugs. In addition, nationwide aided in the passing of the Comprehensive Addiction and Recovery Act, a bill authorizing spending funds supporting treatment, prevention and recovery programs.
2017 finds Shatterproof continuing their efforts in focusing on opioid prescribing practices, accelerating the implementation of evidence-based treatment and recovery, and making their voices heard by the new federal administration advocating to protect insurance coverage for substance use and mental health treatment, along with the never-ending effort of eliminating the stigma of addiction.
Unfortunately, we are not able to participate in the rappelling event this year.
Even though we will not have a team rappelling, we are supporting this event in our hometown and we are asking you will join us!
